Universal Bender

This universal bender is the first reasonably priced thing I've seen that will turn my aluminium strips into something useful, reasonably efficiently. Perhaps I'll buy one. That's not the only useful thing on the site: I would like these Stevenson's metric blocks too.

Remote Control

I first thought of building this, because I printed a quad-copter frame, and bought a flight controller, motors and propeller to go with it. I thought I would connect a Wemos D1 mini to the flight controller. Then if I wanted to fly it, I'd need a WiFi remote control. I had two thumb joysticks and Spark-fun breakout boards I bought a long time ago, and never used, so I set about designing something. I also had various ESP 8266 modules to choose from. Having designed and printed something around a NodeMCU V2, I realised I'd made a silly mistake: There's only one analog in. You can often work around this by connecting and disconnecting the power from the various inputs, but that's not possible with these breakout boards. Embedded Rust

I want to become fluent in Rust, and I have a few things I'd like to do with embedded systems, so I figured I'd combine the two. This has got a lot easier since I first thought about it: there's a book . The thing I specifically want to do is regularly sample the ADC, using non-blocking APIs. This is sort of supported: There are some standardised HAL API s, and they use nb  which is a generalised non-blocking mechanism. This does mean, however, that you end up needing a spin loop that tries everything you are waiting for. You can handle interrupts, so perhaps there's a sleep function that wakes up after an interrupt has been processed? Then I could add something like Chibios events: the interrupt would set the right event flag, and the main loop would act on each event flag that was set, each time it woke up. Bandsaw

I've been tinkering with my circular saw cross cut guide. It doesn't always produce great results, and it's because the rails aren't all that strong. They aren't that strong because of the saw's low clearance, which make most conventional jigs impractical. Add to this the showers of aluminium chips it produces, and scatters everywhere, and the difficulty of adequately supporting some materials, and I am less than satisfied. It will still work for the other projects I had in mind for it, but for robotics, I've been looking for something else. I'd nearly narrowed it down to two proxxon machines: The FET table saw and the micro band saw (MBS). These both have there down sides: basically the aren't all that powerful, and can only be used with very small work. Then Axminster discounted there hobby bandsaw to £100, and I decided to buy it.
