Universal Bender

This universal bender is the first reasonably priced thing I've seen that will turn my aluminium strips into something useful, reasonably efficiently. Perhaps I'll buy one. That's not the only useful thing on the site: I would like these Stevenson's metric blocks too.

Embedded Rust

I want to become fluent in Rust, and I have a few things I'd like to do with embedded systems, so I figured I'd combine the two. This has got a lot easier since I first thought about it: there's a book . The thing I specifically want to do is regularly sample the ADC, using non-blocking APIs. This is sort of supported: There are some standardised HAL API s, and they use nb  which is a generalised non-blocking mechanism. This does mean, however, that you end up needing a spin loop that tries everything you are waiting for. You can handle interrupts, so perhaps there's a sleep function that wakes up after an interrupt has been processed? Then I could add something like Chibios events: the interrupt would set the right event flag, and the main loop would act on each event flag that was set, each time it woke up. Wire representation of floating point numbers

I have a wire representation for integers (just big endian) and it's easy to work out tests for that. The easiest way to encode floats is then to split into mantissa and exponent. I'd figured that out and was looking for a code example. More power

I've moved on to a multi-ratio gearbox which consists of 2 plastic L-Shape brackets with some appropriately spaced holes in them. It comes with a motor, but I've replaced it with an MM28, which has several times the torque and power. This means using a configuration not really anything like the manufacturer intended. I'm not sure the plastic is quite up to the job, and the geometry leaves me with a few problems. I'm already considering building my own brackets out of aluminium. That would be a good use of my drill press, finally. Anyway, I think I should figure out a prototype using the off the shelf parts for now, so plastic will do. I've wired all this together, and adjusted the software, because the board is oriented differently. The result is erratic, to say the least.
